If you had an extra room in your home… What would you do with it? Right now in Europe there’s a trend for American walk-in closets, although we usually don’t have that much space in our homes.
Or maybe like me, you’d rather have your own fully equipped gym… But in my case, living in an 58m²-apartment, that’s just building castles in the sky!
Luckily my gym is located less than 2 km away (1.8 km looking on Google Maps). But even when you have a gym membership, being able to stretch, do yoga or weight-training at home can save you some travel time. (Not to mention the winter weather in Amsterdam and the daylight hours getting shorter and shorter this time of the year.)
My problem was that I was quite unsatisfied with my living room as a home gym corner. An Ikea makeover to create more space was needed.
My living room before:
My living room after:
Placed in the same direction as the TV, that white couch was taking a lot of space and was rarely used.
Ikea shelves take less space that the couch and allow me to store my home fitness equipment.
Now I can store my fitness books, dvds and gadgets all in one place.
Yes, having large gym mats and big dumbbells in the living room looks a little bit crazy. But I don’t care, as long as that’s convenient!
This is far more motivating than the old white couch!
