I’m occasionally contacted by companies that offer to send me free products. I enthusiastically reply I welcome any free goodies, but point out that I live in the Netherlands. And then I usually don’t hear anything from them anymore.
But evitamins.com actually proceeded with their offer and sent me a box of cookies along with a couple of product samples! The bad new though was I had to pay 16.84 euro of taxes when I received the package… Apparently, the EU-customs decided that the package was worth 64 euro and calculated the import taxes on that amount…
Well, the lesson here is that you better inform yourself before receiving anything (even for free) from the US… So, here are the products I got from evitamins.com:
And the invoice for the import taxes, how nice, 17 euro for a box of free cookies :P
But since I haven’t organized any giveaway on my blog yet, I thought it would be nice to give the box of cookies away to one of my readers. I ate one of the 18 cookies, so there’ll 17 cookies in the box :) I mean, I had to taste at least one to give you my opinion about them!
These cookies are vegan and sweetened with evaporated canned juice. Their fat content comes from canola oil and palm oil, and they’re made with unbleached wheat flour (so they’re not gluten-free). They say they’re guilt-free on the package but with 260 kcal they’re definitely a ‘real’ treat that you want to eat in moderation. (And since I’m not very good at the whole moderation/mindfull eating thing, having that box in my house is not the best idea, that’s honestly also a reason why I organize a giveaway!)
When it comes to flavor and texture, they’re definitely very American: big, thick and buttery, not like European cookies that are small, dry and crumbly.
What do you have to do to win that box of cookies? You have to have an address somewhere in the European Union and leave me a comment below, giving me a good reason why I should send you the cookies.
For example: you’ve never won anything ever, you have 6 hungry kids, you live in a remote village with no access to fancy cookies, etc. It doesn’t necessarily have to be true, just make something up! I’ll choose a winner Friday June 14th at 5 pm (Central European Time).
I’m sorry I’m restricting this to EU-residents, but I wouldn’t want you to have to pay import taxes to receive that free package like I had to!
WINNER UPDATE: Agne from Lithuania has won the cookies!
