It’s amazing how marketing people still come up with new ideas for gym classes every year! It’s true though that it’s always a good thing to try a new class to ‘surprise’ your body.
Here are some new gym classes I would like to try if I could, but unfortunately my gym never offers the latest fitness hypes. So I’ll still stick with weight training, spinning, bodypump and bootcamp…
I discovered this new class when surfing on the site of Lesmills (the company making Bodypump programs). It is basically like a Zumba class with pop music instead of latin music. I’m not a fan of Zumba, because its fun factor really depends on the instructor’s style and the latin music sounds always the same sometimes. Sh’bam seems easier, with music that you already know. Like other Lesmills lessons, there are marketed globally, so Sh’bam should already be available in your country.
This is a video I found on Youtube looking for “Sh’bam”. It’s in a French gym (that’s why the instructor is shouting in French all the time). I wonder how they succeeded in making so many guys participating in this lesson and wearing pink t-shirts! Anyway, everybody seems to be ‘on fire’, take a look:
To get a better feeling of the class, look on Youtube for more examples of Sh’bam classes. Like Zumba, the class ‘vibe’ really depends on the instructor’s energy and skills.
This class utilizes the brand new “Core Transformer“, a 3-dimensional rubber tubing system that creates a constant resistance that “keeps you in your customized fat-burning zone”. This class is available in trendy gyms in the United States, I don’t think it’s going to make it to my gym in Amsterdam, although the Core Transformer seems like a very small and cheap piece of equipment. There is also a DVD.
Booing with Kangoo
Kangoo is an exercise boot with bounce. Strap on a pair of Kangoos, equipped with springs on the bottom and hop, jog, and jump your way through this low impact workout. A pair of Kangoo costs 200 dollars, so this is a class that’s never going to make it to gyms in the Netherlands :-(
Bodyweb with TRX
Hang from the durable TRX® ropes to push, pull, lift and lower your body for a total body suspension workout. There is only one TRC rope available at my gym, so I don’t see a TRX class beginning in the near future. But still, it would be nice to be able to do TRX exercises in a group class.
Retro-robics is actually one of the classes already available at my gym, but at my gym it isn’t called “retro-robics” but “bodyshape”. Retro-robics is just a traditional, old-fashioned aerobics class with a new name! Clever marketing!
